Town of St. Marys

St. Marys retains its 19th century flavour while offering all the
attractions of a modern and friendly small town. In the
downtown area, the streets are flanked with century-old
buildings. Although the old mills have vanished, a community
walkway follows the old millrace along the river. Limestone
is no longer quarried for building blocks but it is still essential
to produce cement which is a major local industry.

THE CHALLENGE

Remote access was a challenge for the Town of St. Marys. The VPN solution in place was slow and unreliable. Terminal Services software was an alternative but lacked ease of use and the ability to quickly deploy new users on the spot. Some town locations without WAN connectivity were limited in the applications available. The Town required a solution that was easy to use, easy to deploy and easy to manage. It had to also ensure that critical and confidential data and applications reside on secure servers.

THE SOLUTION

The Town of St. Marys implemented THINWORX as a solution to provide their users with access to business critical data. Now IT management can quickly and easily provide staff with remote access to critical applications and data. End Users discovered that THINWORX was easy to use, had greater reliability and was faster than the previous VPN solution. IT management also found THINWORX easy to use and highly reliable. Offices without WAN connectivity now have a broader range of data and application access. Since the Town of St. Marys is located in the snow belt of South Western Ontario, business continuity always needs to be considered. Implementing THINWORX means that work can still get done even when staff are unable to get to the office. On a larger scale, business continuity means being prepared for flu season or any pandemic. THINWORX will support these plans and enable the Town to run efficiently even in the face of a crisis as people can still work productively from a remote location.
