THINWORX Version 4.2 Released - Jul 17, 2009

THINWORX now includes Universal Print capability at no extra charge

THINWORX has received excellent feedback regarding its latest version 4 release. When we asked our customers how we could make THINWORX even better, clients told us they would like THINWORX to make printing easier.

Specifically, we heard the need to be:

  • A native THINWORX solution that eliminates dependency on third party print products and Microsoft RDP print mapping.
  • Enable printing THINWORX applications on any printer available from client, including local printers and network printers.
  • A print solution that was not dependant on maintaining a large set of printer drivers on the server.
  • Increase print speed, especially for larger print jobs.
  • A notification bar that provides printing process information.
  • Ability for administrators to enable or disable Universal Print by client.

THINWORX Universal Print will address all of the above and more!

Other features included in 4.2
  • Administrators can now control whether clients can map their local drives (including any removable disks such as USB keys)
  • Organizations may elect to establish a default portal wallpaper.

THINWORX Version 4.1 Released - May 8, 2009

GeNUIT is pleased to announce the release of THINWORX version 4.1.

Customers running version 4.1 will be able to take advantage of THINWORX multi-screen support. THINWORX detects the video adapter configuration of the client device. It then properly sets and manages a map between the user’s RDP session virtual screen and physical screens. Users can move/resize/minimize/maximize remote application windows seamlessly on different screens connected to the client device.

THINWORX version 4.1 also provides improved Seamless Windows performance.

For further technical details, please also see “THINWORX version 4.1 Release Guide” which is posted in the download section.

THINWORX Version 4.0 Released - Feb 20, 2009

We are pleased to announce to our clients that THINWORX version 4.0 is now available. A list of the new features is attached. We encourage all of our clients to discover the advantages of THINWORX 4.0. Please remember that in order to run the latest version, clients must be covered under a THINguard agreement. New Client Access Licenses come standard with one year of THINguard coverage. After the first year, support must be purchased separately. Support for THINWORX V3.X and lower will be phased out and will be discontinued on April 1, 2010.

New features and improvements:
THINWORX version 4.0 introduces a number of significant new features including:

Seamless Remote Application Windows
THINWORX applications running remotely on a server now support seamless remote application windows. What does this mean? THINWORX applications will have the same appearance and features as local desktop applications. Any opened THINWORX applications get the same taskbar button that local applications have and are used to minimize, restore, maximize or close applications.

Shared Session and User Session Management
With THINWORX V4.0 each server requires only a single RDP session per user, regardless of how many applications that user has running. This simplifies system management, reduces system overhead and improves overall performance.

User session management (park, resume and terminate)
A user can suspend their sessions through the “PARK” function, which will disconnect sessions from the server but will leave applications running on servers. After a session is parked, the “RESUME” option will be shown in place of the “PARK” option, allowing the user to resume their session(s). The end user can resume a parked session from their existing machine, or move to another machine (i.e. logout and move to another PC / thin client) and resume the session(s). The “TERMINATE” option will close all running applications and logoff sessions.

User Session Based Application Security Management
THINWORX V4.0 has added security to assure IT Managers that only approved applications can be invoked by an end user. Launching a supplemental application from within an application (example getting to the DOS prompt from a WORD document) can now be controlled by the THINWORX system administrator.

Content Redirection
THINWORX version 4.0 delivers both security and ease of access to end user files systems. End users can be granted access in THINWORX v 4.0 to a customized Windows Explorer view. Users can then browse public folder on the remote server along with all local file systems. Files can be opened along with their associated application on the remote server as if they were local.

Customized Wallpaper
THINWORX version 4.0 enables customers to create custom wallpaper backgrounds.

Administrator Level Session Management
THINWORX version 4.0 includes a new tool that allows THINWORX administrators to view and organize key information on all THINWORX sessions. The administrator can also send messages to specific end users (example upcoming system maintenance)
